Wolfgang Tillmans: 2017 at the Tate Modern
The German contemporary artist Wolfgang Tillmans is nothing short of a modern-day Renaissance man. For his first ever solo exhibition at the Tate Modern, we are taken on a journey through his career, from the beginning of the Iraq War in 2003—described by Tillmans as a watershed moment when the world changed—to today. In a uniquely diverse collection of art, Tillmans’s different sides shine through equally, from the politically engaged to the humorously light-hearted to the deeply contemplative.
With a portfolio comprising still photographs, music, and videos, Tillmans is as prolific as he is ground-breaking, creating Anti-Brexit campaign posters and Frank Ocean album covers alike. Globally recognised for his talents, Tillmans was the first photographer and non-Brit to receive the prestigious Turner Prize.
Wolfgang Tillmans: 2017 is on now at the Tate Modern until 11 June 2017
