Archipelago, Matthew Porter

As gently seductive in its layout as in its sun-kissed images, Archipelago brings together multiple strands of American photographer Matthew Porter’s (b. 1975) work. Using the configuration of a cluster of islands as his conceptual framework, Porter delicately weaves together disparate subjects and places, from friends’ gigs to Jane Fonda’s protesting against the Vietnam War, from the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i to the American Southwest. Effortlessly moving between pictorial genres, Porter’s stylish book intelligently probes the illusionistic possibilities of photography.

“Simply beautiful” – Conscientious Photography

“A collection of overlapping narratives and tangential threads that constantly push us away and pull us back, leaving us to circle in the eddies of the images’ magnetic pull” – Photo Eye
